A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF MRA

AFTER 2011 WE ARE GOING TO CANCEL FUTURE REUNIONS… AND DISBAND MRA I hope that got your attention. The idea behind the Moroccan Reunion Association is for us veterans of Moroccan assignments  to come together in friendship, to reminisce about old times and to enjoy new experiences together. From attendance at recent reunions, it seems that most of our members are no longer interested.  Our last few reunions have shrunk in size to fewer than 100 attendees. For example, Colorado Springs attracted 67 attendees, less than 17% of our approximately 400 living Life Members. [Considering most LMs are accompanied by at least one other person, that number is cut in half]. That’s a pathetic turnout for what was a fantastic four days. I know advancing age and health are contributing factors and sometimes there are important family events that conflict. But I sense a general lack of interest among you, especially among the Life Members. We cannot continue to invest massive efforts to stage such small reunions. The economics don’t support it. If we don’t have participation we are against a BRICKWALL trying to negotiate for favorable rates for you. As President, it is my sworn duty to maintain the Association. I cannot do that without participation by the membership. So, please, let me and the Board of Directors know that you value what we have together.  Raleigh is our next reunion in 2009 and will provide a good indicator of whether the MRA should continue in the long term. If you value this Association, I urge you to actively support it and use the mail, the phone and e-mail to make sure your friends join you at the 2009 Raleigh reunion and the 2011 Rapid City Reunion. Bring your children, too! Planning for both reunions is coming along very well thanks to both our enthusiastic hosts, David Ward Jones and Norm Kautz. It would be a shame to miss them.Unless turn-out improves at these next two reunions, I will approach the Board of Directors with the proposal to disband MRA. Let me know your thoughts. Should it rejuvenate, or just go away?

I'm Tom Bennett and I approve this message!

Our Life Membership policy which was approved by the Board of Directors at the Tacoma Reunion is as follows:

THREE-TIERED LIFE MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN UNVEILED AT TACOMA

If you are a CM, we have a new opportunity for you to convert to Life Membership. If you are an NCM you know you have received your last MRA Sand Times unless you become a Contributing Member or a Life Member.

At the 2003 Tacoma reunion, the Board Of Directors approved a new Life Membership [LM] policy offering CMs [Contributing Members] and NCMs [Non-Contributing Members] LM status at a tiered reduced rate based on age. The ranges and contributions are as follows:

$50.00 [Geezer] If you are 70 or older. Two installments may be used if paid within one year.

$75.00 [Senior] If you are between the ages of 65 and 69. Three installments may be used if paid within one year.

$100.00 [Junior] If you are 64 or younger. Three installments may be used if paid within one year. Should you wish to take advantage of this “open season” on LM membership, complete the attached Membership form and send it with your check to the Omaha address on the form. Those CMs who are CM05 or higher will have their annual contributions credited to their Life Membership payment at the rate of $10.00 per year. For NCMs who do not desire to take advantage of the “open season”  at this time, you may still continue to receive the NewsLetter by becoming a CM NOW! Else, we will remove you from our mailing list.
